Something Rotten this way comes

I fell in love with this model when I first saw it. Which is a little bit creepy when you stop and think about it...

He sat on the "to paint" pile for ages while I pondered over colours and tone and other such weighty subjects until I came to the realisation that pondering wasn't going to get him painted. So, to the paintbrushes, old chum.

In the end I decided that I would paint the flesh.. flesh coloured, but with highlights using rotting flesh and white for a more pallid feel and shading done in purple to give the effect of bruising and lividity.
The sores are painted yellow with red and purple washes built up around the edges, to give the impression of holes torn in his flesh with the underlying fat showing through. and all the pimples and pustules are red raw and full of pus. I kept the pus theme up with the goop dripping out of his stomach.
So the overall effect (I hope) is alive, but deep in the clutches of grandfather Nurgle.
I love the green armour on the GW site as it's a brilliant contrast to the bright flesh, so kept that pretty close. The axe got untold layers of rusty browns and oranges stippled on before some of the edges were picked out in silver. Then I went over it with rusty weathering powders.

I wanted the base to be a complete contrast to the disease and pestilence represented on the figure and nothing says pure like snow.  In retrospect, I feel it's too simple. So I may redo that at some point.

Really pleased with the way he turned out, especially as he was painted over a week of lunchtimes at work.

Don't trust the Man
